The answer is yes there is. Last year the hotels have tried to be very “inventive” with their pricing and this year the prices are much more reasonable. Plus Airbnb has exploded for the V8 Supercars weekend in Newcastle with many houses available and private rooms in people’s homes they’ve opened up especially for that weekend.
So with only 40% of places booked out with a month left to go before the big weekend your chances of scoring a great deal are really good.
We’ve put together a little list of things to look out for and choose from when selecting accommodation for the weekend.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PLACE TO STAY FOR V8 SUPERCARS WEEKEND:
- Find somewhere with parking available for your room – the city’s parking has been severely limited since last year and finding a park in town is very difficult. Instead we recommend leaving the car at the accommodation and using public transport, rideshares like Uber and Didi which both have heaps of drivers available in Newcastle, and other alternative transport options. Or let us drive you straight there with one of our Sydney – Newcastle transfer options so you don’t have to worry about the car at all.
- Choose a place near a train station. If you’re going to opt for somewhere slightly out of the CBD and away from the hullaballoo so you can enjoy the buzz in town and retire at the end of the day to somewhere more peaceful, there are plenty of great options just outside the CBD. But, the bus routes in Newcastle have been privatised and can involve many changes depending where you stay. So, the easiest option is to stay somewhere near a train line and get a train to the Newcastle Interchange then a tram up into the CBD and the heart of the action.
- Many places also offer breakfast or nice little extras which can really reduce the costs of an already expensive weekend. Try and find a place that offers teas/coffees/breakfast options so you don’t have to pay for all your meals out while you’re here.
- Find somewhere with flexible bedding arrangments. Many places on Airbnb have multiple sleeping areas, extras couches or air mattresses. If you’re coming with more people than can fit in a queen bed choosing a place with extra beds for no extra price. This can really keep the costs down and save you a world of stress trying to find somewhere you can all stay together or nearby to one another.
SUPPORT THE TOWN
Also keep in mind that the V8s really disrupt the regular functioning of Newcastle and means that the businesses just outside the boundaries of the racetracks can really struggle getting enough customers through the door during that weekend. Help keep our city vibrant and explore some of the amazing boutique bars, cafes and world-class restaurants this city has to offer all over town.
